Kenya- Somali border closed indefinitely

Kenya’s internal security minister Prof George Saitoti has directed all the Coast province administrators to keep a tight look at the Kenyan-Somalia border so that Somali fighters do not cross into Kenya as refugees.

The minister said that the country’s top security organs is on high alert to counter the entry of the two groups fighting for the control of the Horn of Africa country disguised as refugees.

‘Although we wish Somali well, Kenya will not fight any of the partisans involved in the war’ said Saitoti.

The minister also told the Administrators not to be reluctant while manning the border to ensure that Jobless Kenyans do not cross over the border and fight for any of the group. He was saying this at the Coast provincial commissioner boardroom while addressing 21 District Commissioners from the province.

The minister also said that the Government takes seriously all the threats by one of the fundamentalist factions prosecuting the civil strive in Somalia following reports that some Kenyans of Somali origin were being recruited to prop up the fledgling Transitional Federal Government in Mogadishu.

He said that although no Kenyan had taken part in the fighting, the government was in full control of the situation.

‘Although we as Kenyans would love to see peace in the horn of Africa, we will not send troops to fight any of the combatants involved in the war that has no stable government for over twenty years’ said Saitoti as he Concluded the meeting.
